Sometimes a tooth extraction is the last option for a damaged or infected tooth.
Whilst we will do our very best to preserve and maintain your teeth for as long as possible, there may be a time when a tooth needs extracting, and this is the only option. At Noosa Parade Dental Care we try to make the process of extracting a tooth as stress and pain free as possible.
Why would a tooth need removing?
A tooth may need extracting if tooth decay has progressed deep into the tooth and cannot be solved by root canal therapy or if you tooth has become infected. Another reason is if your mouth is becoming overcrowded, and your tooth needs to be removed to make room for other teeth.
To prevent a tooth from needing to be extracted, we recommend you visit your dentist for your regular check-up and clean at least every 6 months and keep up your oral cleaning routine at home!
What happens before extraction?
Before any extraction, the team at Noosa Parade Dental Care will go through your medical and dental history and take the appropriate x-rays to reveal the length, shape, and position of the tooth and surrounding bone. From this information, we can decide whether to refer you to an oral surgeon for specialist care.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction
The most common teeth extraction procedure is the removal of wisdom teeth. Most adults have four wisdom teeth, but some people find that when they start to erupt, there is not enough room for them. To prevent the wisdom teeth erupting and causing the other teeth to move or shift, your dentist may recommend having them extracted.
