Our take-home teeth whitening kits offer a non-invasive and effective way to brighten your smile.
The lifestyle choices we make can lead to our teeth looking discoloured and aged. Highly coloured foods, coffee and smoking can all result in our teeth not being as bright as we would like!
Professional teeth whitening treatment has the ability to erase the signs of discolouration and can enhance your entire smile!
Why do your teeth discolour?
Tooth discolouration – dulled or yellow coloured teeth – can often detract what is otherwise a great smile. Unfortunately, simply brushing your teeth harder is not going to solve the root problem.
While yellowish teeth can be genetic, the vast majority of tooth discolouration is a result of what you consume. Some of the most common things that cause tooth discolouration include:
- coffee
- tea
- red wine
- soft drinks
- dark foods like berries, beetroots etc
- chocolate
- smoking cigarettes
- poor dental hygiene
- certain medications
For long-standing yellow teeth, regular brushing or picking up your dental hygiene routine won’t solve deep staining. To whiten your smile, you’ll need more targeted treatment. But how does teeth whitening work?
The Pola™ teeth whitening system
At Noosa Parade Dental here on the Sunshine Coast, we offer Pola™ take-home teeth whitening kits, so you can achieve a brighter smile from the comfort of your own home. The Pola™ system is a proven and effective tooth whitening treatment option and works by gradually whitening your teeth over time. So how does it work?
First, your dentist will use the Pola™ shade guide to identify both what grade of discolouration your teeth are and use this as a guide to discuss how many shades brighter you’d like to go.
Pola™ offers multiple types of take-home kits depending on your goals and lifestyle and time constraints. Therefore, your dentist will also assess which type of take-home kit is right for you.
Once you have your kit, it is a simple process of filling your custom teeth whitening tray with the appropriate teeth-whitening gel and following the relevant application instructions.
The solution contains hydrogen peroxide, the active ingredient in most take-home kits, which breaks down into oxygen ions, once in your mouth. These oxygen ions enter the enamel and attack the deep-seated stain molecules made by food and drinks.
Depending on your teeth whitening goals, you may require multiple applications of the solution. The best part of the Pola™ system is that there is a system to suit all our patients’ different needs.
How long will the treatment last for?
The length of time your teeth whitening procedure lasts for will depend on your eating, drinking and oral health habits following your treatment.
Good oral habits, as well as avoiding food and drink likely to stain, will keep your teeth looking white for as long as possible. To maximise and maintain your white teeth, you can repeat tooth whitening every 6-12 months.
Am I a suitable candidate?
The best way to determine if you’re a suitable candidate is through a thorough dental examination. While heavy discolouration may be an obvious sign that you’re a teeth whitening candidate, a proper examination will help to determine the underlying cause of your yellow or dulled teeth, and if other treatments are needed first.
Moreover, significant teeth or gum sensitivity, or the presence of crowns and veneers, may restrict your ability to undergo the treatment.
